Via the RYA Certifying Authority Tonnage Measurement Services are offered for Red Ensign yachts of load line length 24m or less.

Tonnage Measurement for British Flag

For obtaining Part I British Flag Registration a tonnage and measurement survey is required which involves several measurements in order to make basically a volume calculation. Additionally a few details of the yacht are confirmed. The survey can be done with the yacht in or out of the water.

Tonnage Measurement for other Red Ensign Flags

Tonnage and Measurement Survey is also available for other Red Ensign Flags :

Bermuda Anguilla
St Helena
British Virgin Islands (BVI)
Falkland Islands
Turks & Caicos Islands
Cayman Islands
Guernsey
Gibraltar
Jersey
Isle of Man
Monserrat

Load Line Length

The limit is Load line length 24m and below which allows yachts slightly over 24m LOA to be measured :

“Load Line Length” means either 96% of the total length on a waterline at 85% of the least moulded depth measured from the top of the keel, or the length from the foreside of the stem to the axis of the rudder stock on that waterline, whichever is the greater. In a vessel designed with a rake of keel, the waterline on which this length is measured should be parallel to the design waterline;
