| Azimuth drive propulsion which provides high manoeuvrablility as they are "rudder propellers" by which the vessel can also be steered using hydraulic control. This is a Z drive. |
| A remote mounted V-drive. The engine driveshaft is connected to a Carden shaft which has Hooke's joints. This enables the short shaft to transmit the same torque as a larger one. This system means the engines can be installed "backwards" which is of benefit on planing craft as the engine weight can be placed more aft than if a conventional shaft arrangement was used. The stuffing box in this case is a high speed PSS type seal which is water lubricated. |
