Piping

It was quite interesting to see a newbuild which had tanks and piping yet to be painted. Above we can see two galvanised pipe sections and a valve. But the flange welded on to each pipe is not galvanised. The valves obviously arrive for installation already painted.

In the above photo on the right we can see a galvanised pipe section connected to an elbow that is not galvanised. Then on the left after the valve we can see straight galvanised pipe sections welded to elbow sections which are not galvanised.

The problem is that it is in the elbows where there will be the most corrosion due to the turbulent flow there. So it is rather disappointing to see the elbows not galvanised whilst the majority of the system is. Externally it does not matter as long as it is painted and the coatings maintained over the years.
