I do not believe it is easy to switch from monohulls to multihull surveying. Some good experience is necessary because there are specific structural inspections to make which require knowledge of the construction methods used and the findings may mislead an inexperienced surveyor.
I have also seen some of the worst construction defects on catamarans. Particularly with resin infusion method. This can be even just one of the two mouldings of one hull bad and the others good.
It is essential for the boat to be hauled for bottom inspection. This can be very expensive for cats and the survey could therefore be a split survey. So the first inspection would be an in-water inspection and then the report is issued. The client reads the report and decides whether it would be worth paying for the haul out and second inspection or rejects the boat entirely.
